What Are Affirmations?

Affirmations are also sometimes referred to as positive affirmations. These are phrases or words that are repeated regularly to instill belief in them in ourselves. Some examples of positive affirmations include:

  • I am worthy.
  • I deserve everything I want.
  • I am powerful.
  • I am independent.
  • I am confident.

How Do Affirmations Work?

Our minds are powerful. We believe things that we are told over and over, no matter whether they are positive or negative. This can be a problem because so many of us hear negative beliefs that are repeated to us that we begin to believe. These can be passed down through families or can be learned from society and media. Sometimes we even come up with these negative thoughts and believe them. Some examples of these include:

  • It is so tough to find love.
  • Life is hard and awful.
  • The world is a scary place, and the only place that’s safe is home.
  • I cannot control or save myself.
  • It’s difficult to learn a new language.

These limiting beliefs make relocation and living abroad hard for expats, making an already challenging experience impossible because we believe everything is awful.

Positive affirmations are positive thoughts that we choose to replace negative ones. By repeating these over and over, with gusto and power, we can change our mindset and fill our hearts and mind with the powerful positivity that will help us overcome struggles and thrive.
